Microsoft pulls the latest Windows 10 update after users report data loss.

A recent large update for Windows 10 has been pulled back from release by Microsoft after users that applied the update reported large amounts of user files were deleted from their computers when the update was applied. Other users with notebooks reported a sharp drop in batter life after the update was applied.

The October 2018 Update is one of Microsoft’s regular feature updates to the Windows 10 O/S and implemented many new features and changes. Among the new features included in this update is the Your Phone app. It’s a new tool that allows Android phone users to send texts and view photos right from their Windows 10 PC desktop.

The flawed updates did not apply to all Windows 10 users so the damage is limited to some users that applied updates to their computers manually during the week of October 1 – 5. The scheduled all-user implementation of this update was originally planned for October 9th. That’s when the updates would have automatically been applied to all Windows 10 systems. Microsoft announced that this update won’t be available until they figure out the problem with this version of the software.

The latest news suggests that the update deletes files in the My Documents folder, apparently as part of a profile reset. If you don’t have a recent backup of your files, it still might be possible to recover the lost files but it’s important that you stop all activity on your computer until a recovery effort is made.
